EPC Deadlines Binned

It has been a great week for landlords.

The ludicrous and nonsensical deadlines for landlords to get to energy performance certificates (EPC) grade C have been binned.

It is a shame for all the landlords for whom this was all too much and who have already sold their properties.

But is it still a great result for those remaining in the game. It seems Rishi Sunak has finally realised that the private rented sector could see a big fall in supply, people made homeless and fast rising rents as a result of all the measures landlords would have had to comply with. So he binned the deadlines. Gone, gone, gone!

And good riddance – but cue much hand wringing from those who believe that man made climate change is significant and we are all going to die very soon.

Also, impressed to see the Energy Efficiency Taskforce, whose co-chair was Nat West’s former boss, Alison Rose (the one who blabbed to the BBC about Nigel Farage’s account at Coutts), getting the red card at the same time.

It may all come back under “Beer Starbucks” of course, should he be elected. But at least there is a reprieve for now – and I would argue there are votes in the delay to this and to the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles, which was announced at the same time. So, Labour’s chances of being the next government may have just slipped.

In other good news, even the HS2 rail project leg to Manchester looks set to be dumped or reduced – a project with an almost negative social rate of return.

It was the wrong project – connecting up the cities of the north properly would have been the better bet from the off.

All in all, a good week for landlords

TWITTER PAGE Twitter has banned me twice permanently for life. (I was unbanned permanently once, I may be the only person that has ever happened to). The ban is for having “Wrong Thoughts” and “Provoking Quarrels” mainly about coercive Convid injections, “vaccine” mandates and house arrest policies, but they may relent and put me back live again, one of these days: Twitter
